As a child progresses though DoodleMaths, DoodleEnglish and DoodleSpell, our technology can recommend personalised goals for them (such as 'complete all end of year 5 objectives' or 'move from 6-a-day to 7-a-day'), and estimate a target number of stars they'll need earn per week to move them towards that goal.

Target number of stars

When a child logs in, they’ll see a gauge with an arrow in the bottom left-hand corner. This shows children whether they’re on target.

If a goal hasn't been set, the target number of stars defaults to between 35 and 60 per week (depending on the child's age and ability).

If a goal has been set, the target number of stars will differ according to what is required to achieve the goal.

To see if a child is on target to reach their goal:

  1. Log in to the Teacher Dashboard
  2. Go to Analyse Goals and Targets
  3. Adjust the time scale and subject accordingly

Goal setting

Not all children need a goal to be set - where Doodle is being used as a homework tool or to top up their regular maths, the default target will ensure they achieve this. However, for some children who may need more support in their learning, you can create custom goals.

To set a custom goal:

  1. Log in to the Teacher Dashboard
  2. Go to Analyse Goals and Targets
  3. Select Edit goal
  4. Choose an end date
  5. Choose a goal from the list of those recommended. We only recommend goals that are challenging but achievable!

You can use the same screen to see which children are on target to achieve the goals you have set.

Please note: The target number of stars is shared with the child, but goals (such as 'complete all end of year 5 objectives') are not, as they might not always be appropriate.
